In both of his Guhyagarbha commentaries Jikme Tenpe Nyima follows the [[Zur]] lineage in interpreting the tantra, rather than the lineage of [[Rongzom Pandita]] and [[Longchenpa]], as his teacher [[Mipham Rinpoche]] had done.<ref>Adam Pearcey notes that it is possible that the Zur interpretation, with its greater emphasis on the practices of the ‘upper and lower gateways’ , lends itself more readily to comparison with the [[Highest Yoga Tantra]]s of the [[Sarma]] schools.</ref> His Dzogchen works consist of 22 texts, many of which were written as responses to individuals. This is well known as the Earlier Translation School of fully accomplished vidyādharas who were like living buddhas-the likes of Ma, Nyak, Bero, Nubchen, their ancestral lineage, Zurpa and his ancestral lineage, Nyang, Rog, Rongzom, and the others. A jewel-like lineage of countless vidyādharas, like living buddhas, passed on this lineage. The precious jewels of their heritage are the three yogas of the essential meaning of the root tantra, which have continued until now without diminishing as the excellent explanatory tantras. This is the certainty of the Glorious Secret Essence. Knowing this import, even at the end of the five degenerations, the ones who have increased the enlightened activity of the victorious ones without rival are father Zhenpen Thaye and his heirs who, regardless of hardship, have upheld the tradition of this tantric teaching. Dodrupchen Jikme Tenpe Nyima's Collected Works — the Third Dodrupchen's collected works have originally been printed in five volumes. In recent years a book version in seven volumes has been produced. His most important works are his commentary on the Guhyagarbha Tantra the Key to the Precious Treasury, Memories of the Bodhisattvas, and an original composition on treasure texts, which he composed in collaboration with Terton Sogyal.

In both of his Guhyagarbha commentaries Jikme Tenpe Nyima follows the Zur lineage in interpreting the tantra, rather than the lineage of Rongzom Pandita and Longchenpa, as his teacher Mipham Rinpoche had done.[1] His Dzogchen works consist of 22 texts, many of which were written as responses to individuals. Some of these were only compiled from notes after his passing.[2]

    • Colophon: This brief commentary on the general meaning of the Glorious Secret Essence Tantra entitled Key to the Precious Treasury was requested by the precious guru Yeshe Ödzer Gyatso," who brought great benefit to the sacred doctrine of the Earlier Translation School. Having written one version of the general meaning, I was still quite young at that time and lacked experience with the texts on tantra. Therefore, my first draft was unclear and incomplete. During the occasion that the bhikshu Kunga Lodrö ­possessor of faith, diligence, wisdom, and a wealth of hearing and contemplating-was engaged in the excellent service of diligently teaching this tantra, he fervently requested me to rewrite [this commentary] while offering a white jewel, red brocade, and a horse the color of the sunrise. I was also requested by the precious garland command of the unequaled great tertön of our time, the vidyādhara Lerab Lingpa, who assisted me with this work. I place the feet of the sovereign of the oceanlike doctrine, a living buddha in these degenerate times, the omniscient guru whose name is difficult to even repeat, Dorje Ziji [i.e., Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo] on the crown of my head. In addition, I place the feet of the vajra master of the great maṇḍala, adorned with knowledge and siddhi, Pema Benzar [i.e., Dzogchen Khenpo Padma Dorje]," and many others on the crown of my head. In the presence of these vajra holders, I-Jigme Tenpa'i Nyima, a reflection of a dharma teacher from the Do Valley in Do-Kham, having received the empowerment of the Glorious Magical Manifestation Matrix and the explanations on the tantra, including the upadesha instructions­ completed this commentary on the excellent day of the Year of the Fire Dragon [1916] while the world and all inhabitants were enjoying the celebration of summer like the Second Age of Perfection. Through this source of all happiness and benefit, may the doctrine of the victorious ones in general and specifically may the stainless tradition of the great Secret Essence increase in countless ways throughout all directions forever!     • Aspiration for publication: Om swasti! Here in this pure land of the aryas, the snow land of Tibet, through the combined aspirations of the Dharma King, the Paṇḍit, and the Realized One, the doctrine of Secret Mantra initially welled forth. This is well known as the Earlier Translation School of fully accomplished vidyādharas who were like living buddhas-the likes of Ma, Nyak, Bero, Nubchen, their ancestral lineage, Zurpa and his ancestral lineage, Nyang, Rog, Rongzom, and the others. A jewel-like lineage of countless vidyādharas, like living buddhas, passed on this lineage. The precious jewels of their heritage are the three yogas of the essential meaning of the root tantra, which have continued until now without diminishing as the excellent explanatory tantras. This is the certainty of the Glorious Secret Essence. Knowing this import, even at the end of the five degenerations, the ones who have increased the enlightened activity of the victorious ones without rival are father Zhenpen Thaye and his heirs who, regardless of hardship, have upheld the tradition of this tantric teaching. Even someone like me, who was born as a follower of this tradition [and] received the transmissions of the Omniscient One, went on to write this concise and lucid commentary as a general meaning for those with beginners' minds like myself. Those with extraordinary minds of faith and interest have carved this woodblock like a spring of excellent accumulations. May their efforts be of benefit to the very heart of the Vajrayāna doctrine! May the enlightened activity of the glorious gurus be ever-increasing! When all those with a karmic connection practice the precious dharma, may not even the name of negativity or decline be heard and may the fully endowed interdependency of excellent positive circumstances increase as an oceanlike wealth of the two purposes! Thus, Chökor Lama Kunga Lodrö, Yungshul Lama Sung Chog Dorje, and others patronized this [woodblock print]. The greatly learned Amdo Zhabdrung Khetsun Tendzin Gyatso, the novice Delo, and others also contributed to the sponsorship of the project, including my helper Lodrö Choden, who has overseen every detail.
