Anathapindika (Pal.; Skt. Anāthapiṇḍada; Tib. མགོན་མེད་ཟས་སྤྱིན་, gönmé zé jin, Wyl. mgon med zas sbyin), whose name literally means “Giver of alms to those without protection” was a wealthy householder and patron of the Buddha. He is most famous for having given the Buddha and his monks the famous Jetavana grove in Shravasti, where one of the first buddhist viharas or monasteries was built.
