Eight subcontinents (Tib. gling phran brgyad) - there are two subcontinents for each of the four continents which surround Mount Meru according to the cosmology of the Abhidharma. The eight subcontinents are:

  1. Deha (lus)
  2. Videha (lus 'phags)
  3. Cāmara (rnga yab)
  4. Aparacāmara (rnga yab gzhan)
  5. Sāthā (yo ldan)
  6. Uttaramantriṇa (lam mchog 'gro)
  7. Kurava (sgra mi snyan)
  8. Kaurava (sgra mi snyan gyi zla)
