Nine examples which illustrate how buddha nature is present in all beings, from the Uttaratantra Shastra:

  1. a buddha in the shroud of a decaying lotus
  2. pure honey amid a big swarm of bees
  3. grain contained within its husk
  4. a piece of gold in the midst of filth
  5. a precious treasure in the ground under a poor man’s house
  6. the shoot of a mango tree growing from a tiny fruit
  7. a statue of the Buddha made of precious gems inside a tattered rag
  8. a universal monarch in the womb of a woman of miserable appearance
  9. a golden image present inside a clay mould

Sometimes called the nine similes of buddha nature.
