Basic vehicle (Skt. hinayana; Tib. theg dman) literally the 'lesser vehicle.' It comprises both the shravakayana [Skt.] or vehicle of shravakas and the pratyekabuddhayana [Skt.] or vehicle of pratyekabuddhas.
