Chimé Phakmé Nyingtik thangka which was Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo's practice support

Chimé Phakmé Nyingtik (The Heart Essence of the Sublime Lady of Immortality) is a long life practice discovered as terma by Jamyang Khyentsé Wangpo in 1855. He revealed it at his seat Dzongsar Tashi Lhatse in a vision of the three masters who attained the level of vidyadhara who has power over life (see Four vidyadhara levels) Guru Rinpoche, Vimalamitra and Shri Singha. The practice of Chimé Phakmé Nyingtik features a mandala of white Jetsün Tara in union with Amitayus.

Through its power and blessings many masters were able to remove obstacles, including the great Jamgön Kongtrul himself. In fact, according to prophecies, the life of Jamgön Kongtrul would have many obstacles, and he would not have lived very long but for this practice of Chimé Phakmé Nyingtik.

The highly respected master, Jamyang Khyentsé Chökyi Lodrö himself, in his biography, has said that he received this entire transmission about ten times and in terms of the complete practices practised them over three times and held this as his own most important practice of all. This was also the main heart practice of Dilgo Khyentsé Rinpoche who completed practice in retreat of Chimé Phakmé Nyingtik seven times. One of the main holders of this practice today is Kyabjé Trulshik Rinpoche. He is every year doing at least a month retreat of Chime Phakmé Nyingtik at Maratika cave in Nepal, the very place where Guru Rinpoche accomplished the level of vidyadhara who has power over life.
