Eight great fears (Wyl. ‘jigs pa chen po brgyad) are

the fears of:

  1. drowning,
  2. thieves,
  3. lions,
  4. snakes,
  5. fire,
  6. spirits,
  7. captivity and
  8. elephants;

and their inner counterparts:

  1. doubt,
  2. craving,
  3. avarice,
  4. envy,
  5. wrong views,
  6. hatred,
  7. delusion and
  8. pride.
