The monastery specialized in the terma of Ratna Lingpa and the mind treasures (gong ter) of Tulku Mingyur Dorje (1645-67). It had about 600 monks before the Chinese invasion. The current head of Palyul Monastery is Drupwang Penor Rinpoche.
