This is a rather funny if not plainly wrong statement: According to Abhidharma, the eighteen dhatus are categorized differently, i.e. in relation to the five skandhas.--Hankop (talk) 07:23, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

This might be because the term 'dhatu' can be translated in different ways. There are many things called 'dhatu' in the Pali texts. See Majjhima Nikāya 115. Bahudhātuka Sutta: Lists of elements and principles in a dialogue between the Buddha and Ananda. Ts.

The source for this quote comes from Cornu's Encyclopedia. He says: "In the Abhidharmas the eighteen dhatus are categorized differently, i.e. in relation to the five skandhas:

  • aggregate of form has 10 dhatus: eye faculty & forms, ear faculty and sounds, etc.
  • aggregate of consciousness contains 7: 5 sense consciousnesses, mental cc and mental faculty
  • 18th dhatu, phenomena or mental objects (dharmadhatu) is allocated in different aggregates...
