In 1986 he was appointed as personal attendant to the young Gyalwa [[Dokhampa Shedrub Nyima]], the 9th Khamtrul Rinpoche, travelling with him to Asia and Europe, as well as on [[pilgrimage]]s to many holy Buddhist sites.
