Tulku Pema Dorje (1867-1934) was the second son of Dudjom Lingpa, the younger brother of Dodrupchen Jikme Tenpe Nyima, and a main holder of the Longchen Nyingtik in Dodrupchen Monastery.

Tulku Pema Dorje’s father was Dudjom Lingpa, and his mother was Traza Sönam Tso [1]. In his autobiography, Dudjom Lingpa writes that he once had a vision of the birth of his son, Tulku Pema Dorje, which was predicted to arrive in the Rabbit Year (which was 1867).

At a young age, he was recognised by Mingyur Namkhé Dorje and Dudjom Lingpa as an incarnation of Dragyur Marpé Kyéta Choktrul [2] and of Dodrupchen Gönpé Tsatsa Tulku[3]. He was enthroned at Yarlung Pemakö Tsasum Khadro Duling.

Few years after his brother’s enthronement as the Third Dodrupchen Rinpoche in 1870, Tulku Pema Dorje went to live with him at Dodrupchen Monastery. He studied and received the Longchen Nyingtik lineage from Patrul Rinpoche and from his own brother Dodrupchen Jikmé Tenpé Nyima.

Later on, Tulku Pema Dorje became the administrator of the monastery and the devout caretaker of Dodrupchen Jikme Tenpe Nyima’s projects until his death. Tulku Pema Dorje said “Dodrupchen Rinpoche would gardly say anything directly about what to do, but listening to his hints, I would try to fulfil his aspirations”.

Tulku Pema Dorje's tulku is Tulku Theglo Rinpoche, the son of Dzongter Kunzang Nyima, the enlightened speech incarnation of Dudjom Lingpa.
