Khandro Sangdü, or Khandro Sangwa Düpa, the ‘Secret Gathering of the Dakinis’, is a rediscovered terma (Tib. yang ter) of Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo. The cycle contains practices of the enlightened body, speech and mind of Vajravarahi, as well as a sadhana of all the dakas and dakinis of the twenty-four great sacred places and thirty-two hallowed lands.

This practice is one of the most sacred practices for purifying samayas. When samayas are purified, we can attain the ordinary and supreme accomplishments immediately.

History

The original teachings and practices were given by Guru Rinpoche to Yeshe Tsogyal. Yeshe Tsogyal practised them and then hid them as a terma for future generations.

Jomo Menmo Tsokye (1248-1283), an incarnation of Yeshe Tsogyal, revealed the Khandro Sangdü as an earth terma and reached rainbow body based on this practice. Before reaching enlightenment, she again hid the volumes as terma.

The terma was then rediscovered by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo as yangter when Ekazati offered him the actual volumes of the terma. The sadhana was made widely known by Jamgön Kongtrul Lodrö Thaye and other great lamas, and is now practised often.

A year after Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo passed away, a drupchö of Khandro Sangdü was held by Jamgön Kongtrul Lodrö Thaye at Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo's seat, and the tradition of holding a Khandro Sangdü drupchö on the anniversary of Khyentse Wangpo's passing has been maintained every year since.

Khandro Tsering Chödrön

Vajravarahi was the yidam deity of Khandro Tsering Chödrön, the spiritual consort of Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö. That is one of the reasons the practice of Khandro Sangdü was chosen to consecrate her memorial stupa in Lerab Ling, in July 2014.
