Prakriti [Skt.] (wyl. gtso bo) - 'primal substance', the fundamental nature of reality according to the Samkhya philosophy. It has six special features:
- it is the agent of actions
- it is unborn and permanent
- it is unitary
- it is only an object and can not be a subject. It is the object of enjoyment of the person (purusha).
- it pervades all animate and inanimate objects.
- it is unmanifest and an equilibrium of the three qualities.
