Phurba (Wyl. phur ba; Skt. kīla) — a ritual dagger, such as that held by the deity Vajrakilaya.

Four Phurbas

According to the tradition of Vajrakilaya, there are four phurbas:

  1. Kyérim Sipé Phurba: the kyérim, or generative phase of the phurba of existence.
  2. Tsenma Dzé kyi Phurba: the actual material phurba
  3. Dzogrim Changsem Phurba: the dzogrim or dissolution phase, of the phurba of bodhichitta.
  4. Rigpa Dön gyi Phurba: the absolute phurba of rigpa.
