King Ajatashatru (Skt. Ajātaśatru; Tib. མ་སྐྱེས་དགྲ་, Makyédra, Wyl. ma skyes dgra; Trad. Chin. 阿闍世王), also called Darshaka (Wyl. mthong ldan) — a king of Magadha during the time of the Buddha. Ajatashatru literally means “Unborn Enemy”, since he was an enemy of his father even before he was born. He killed his father, King Bimbisara, but then had great remorse.
