Banyan Grove is a grove of banyan trees (Skt. Nyagrodhārāma; Tib. ནྱ་གྲོ་དྷའི་ཀུན་དགའི་ར་བ།, Wyl. n+ya gro dha’i kun dga’i ra ba) near Kapilavastu, where Shakyamuni Buddha resided during his first visit to the city after his awakening. It was donated to the monastic community by King Shuddhodana, the father of the Buddha. It is said that several rules of the Vinaya were promulgated there. [1]
