Oddiyana [Skt.] - Orgyen [Tib.], land to the northwest of India, long associated with tantra, and the birthplace of Padmasambhava. Oddiyana is accepted as the place where the tantric teachings originated. It was also the birthplace of Garab Dorje, and the kingdom of King Dza. In the north-west of Oddiyana is the lake known as Dhanakosha, meaning ‘treasury of wealth’. Oddiyana is thought by many to be situated in the Swat Valley in Pakistan.
