Uttarakuru (Skt. uttarakuru; Tib. བྱང་གི་སྒྲ་མི་སྙན།, Wyl. byang gi sgra mi snyan) literally meaning “northern unpleasant sound”, is the continent to the north of Sumeru according to Buddhist cosmology. In the Abhidharmakosha, it is described as square in shape. Its human inhabitants enjoy a fixed lifespan of a thousand years and do not hold personal property or marry. .[1]
