Saraswati is one of the daughters of Chatral Sangye Dorje and Sangyum Kamala. Through her mother, she is the granddaughter of Tulshuk Lingpa.

She has been recognized as an incarnation of Sera Khandro, one of the teachers of Chatral Sangye Dorje.
